Does your waiting room reflect the ethos of your business?

There are a wide range of client facing businesses where visitors are required to spend some time waiting. All types of establishments from beauty salons to corporate offices provide some form of waiting area and waiting room chairs for their patrons.

As reception and waiting areas are usually situated within the immediate vicinity of a building entrance, they are often what clients see first when visiting an establishment. It is here where they will form their first impressions of an organisation, and the aesthetic of these spaces will be a key influence on this.

Waiting rooms should be welcoming places with clear access, comfortable seating, pleasant lighting, and attractive décor. Whilst the style adopted can differ greatly, the core principals are the same. If your waiting room does not meet these criteria, it may be time to give it an overhaul.

A good place to start is to look at your waiting room from a visitor’s point of view. Follow their journey into your premises and look closely at what they will see. Sit in one of your waiting room chairs and take a good look around.

When you see a space every day you can become so over-familiar with it that you stop noticing issues that others will see. Take time to assess the surroundings in your waiting room and the comfort afforded by the seats, bearing in mind that initial comfort can start to diminish if waiting for a long time. Once you are aware of where there are issues, you can ensure these are addressed when undertaking any redecoration or upgrading of furnishings. If appropriate, you could also ask for feedback from clients or acquaintances.

The Importance of Waiting Room Chairs

Whilst waiting room chairs are a functional item, they are also integral to the image portrayed. Aside from a reception desk, they are usually the most prominent features in any waiting room and not only do they need to look good, they also need to be comfortable to sit on.

The type of waiting room chairs you choose will be dictated by the amount of space available, the number of people you need to accommodate at any one time, the style you want to create, and of course the budget you have at your disposal.

In terms of comfort, some form of upholstered seating is usually always going to be the best choice as it will feature integral cushioning. For high end establishments where you want to project an image of luxury, you may look for plush sofas or armchairs whilst in busy barbers shops where space may be tight, you could be looking for something compact and economical like wall-mounted flip-up seating.

Even where budgets only allow for low cost seating, you can still make this have an impact through the use of colour. Multi-coloured seats can have a striking effect, or you can contrast neutral seats against the backdrop of a bold wall colour. If you don’t have the luxury of an interior designer, look on social media sites such as Pinterest or Instagram for design inspiration.

When choosing waiting room chairs you also need to consider the needs of those who will be using them. Elderly or infirm visitors may require the use of arms to aid sitting and standing whilst junior visitors could benefit from smaller or lower height seating more relevant to their age. If children are regular visitors then it may be appropriate to incorporate a separate waiting area for them and their parents/carers where space allows.

You may also take the opportunity during upgrade works to reconfigure the space in your waiting room. Ensure seats are adequately spaced and that there is clear access for wheelchairs (and prams, where relevant).

Stadium seating

As leading football clubs continue to extend and develop their stadia, so they seek to improve their offering to both facilitate premium ticket prices and satisfy the requirements of VIPs and executives with ever increasing expectations. A far cry from the bleak concrete structures of the past, modern football stadiums are now bright and welcoming with an array of facilities to enhance the matchday experience for fans.

Evertaut’s Club stadium seating

Whilst luxury stadium seating has been a feature in these clubs for many years, it is no longer exclusive to executive boxes and VIP areas. It has now also long been found in premium fan zones where clubs are frequently looking to replace more of their plastic seats with luxury upholstered alternatives.

In contrast to traditional plastic seats which are by their nature hard to sit on for long periods of time, upholstered stadium seating is deeply cushioned. Even entry level luxury seating offers a very comfortable station from which to sit and watch the match.

As most clubs prefer to have seating tailored to their requirements with upholstery to match their team colours, they usually turn to UK suppliers who can make to order, rather than sourcing off-the-shelf solutions which may come from overseas.

There are various models of luxury stadium seating on the market today, from small compact designs which can directly replace plastic seats to plush, high back versions with additional features such as heating elements.

Below are some examples of the luxury stadium seating available in the UK today, manufactured by Evertaut.

Evertaut’s Club stadium seating
Club seats are a compact yet super comfortable alternative to plastic chairs with deeply cushioned seats and padded backs. They can also be manufactured with arms if required.

VIP seats offer more space to spectators with a higher back for improved comfort. They are supplied as standard with arms which help delineate personal space and aid pre-match and half-time relaxation.

Evertaut’s Olympian stadium seat

Olympian seats feature a deep cushioned seat and back which can incorporate heating elements if required. These are controlled via a button in the seat arm and are a welcome luxury on cold winter match days. Cup holders are also available as an additional option.

Evertaut is a long-established manufacturer of luxury stadium seating who has been supplying seating to clubs across the UK for many years. Their seats can be found in many Premiership and Championship clubs as well as those in lower leagues.

Club Branding Enhances Stadium Seats

Whatever league your club plays in, an installation of executive stadium seating can add a premium look and feel to executive seating areas and Directors’ boxes. In recent years executive stadium seats have been commissioned by clubs across all divisions, the majority of whom have opted to incorporate their club’s branding on seat backs.

The cost of adding an embroidered logo onto upholstered stadium seats is relatively low whilst the impact this branding has on the perceived quality and luxury feel of the seats is very high.

When Southport FC upgraded their stadium, a large area of their main stand was fitted with new executive seating, all of which featured embroidery of the club’s intricate crest. The image this projects in comparison to if the seats were simply plain without any branding, is one of luxury and exclusivity.

Similarly, when Bristol Rovers upgraded the seating within their Chairman’s suite, they chose to have the club logo on seat backs. The Chairman and President also had their job titles added above the logo. Whilst executive stadium seats, as the name suggests, still look smart and professional without any branding, the inclusion of a club logo adds another dimension which is obviously truly unique to each individual club.

Sponsorship Branding

Branding can also be used to promote club sponsors whereby their logo is included on seat backs in specific areas of the stadium. This could be in addition to the club’s logo or standalone.

Where a long-term sponsorship commitment is not in place, an alternative to a permanent embroidered logo is a removable seat top cover. Although this may not have quite the same luxury impact, it is an effective way to convey a sponsor’s branding throughout an area of the stadium.

In the case pictured below, seat covers were commissioned as there was a requirement to have the sponsor’s branding removed from display during televised matches.

Branding can be included on any of Evertaut’s stadium seat designs, from the compact Club to the luxury Olympian. Whilst it is usually positioned on the front of seats it can also be added to seat backs, under seats or on end panels.

Executive Stadium Seating Manufactured in the UK

UK football stadium with an installation of executive stadium seating

As UK football clubs prepare to welcome spectators back into their stadiums, work is underway to ensure fans can watch their team in a COVID-safe manner. Whilst changes are required to facilitate this, clubs are also looking at ways to enhance the matchday experience and make it more enjoyable despite the circumstances.

Stadiumseats are obviously a key fixture in any football stadium and spectators will spend most of their time sitting down whilst watching a match. The majority of stadium seating in the UK is manufactured from plastic which is very much functional rather than comfortable. In contrast, executive stadium seating is deeply cushioned and upholstered, offering superior levels of comfort in comparison to a hard-plastic seat.

Increase Revenue By Offering Premium Pitch-Side Seating

Once reserved for club executives and Directors’ Boxes, many clubs have now expanded areas of executive seating to offer more seating options to fans. This also gives clubs the opportunity to increase revenue as they can charge a premium to fans who want the enhanced comfort and exclusivity that comes with sitting in an executive seat.

For those football clubs looking to offer spectators the option to upgrade to premium pitch-side seating, there are various styles of executive stadium seating on the market. From compact seats which allow you to maintain capacity to more spacious and luxurious designs, there are many different models to suit a range of budgets.

Sourcing Executive Stadium Seating In The UK

Whilst you may be able to source executive seating off-the-shelf online, if you want to be confident in the quality and performance of your seating then it is recommended you find a company who manufactures to order. Most UK manufacturers will be able to tailor their seating to your requirements and will have experienced installation teams to complete the full-service offering.

Another benefit of working with a UK manufacturer is that they should be on hand to provide after sales support including spare parts if required. Many of the seats available to order online are from overseas and are therefore supply only. This means you will need to organise your own installation, and after sales support could prove difficult if anything goes wrong.

Executive Stadium Seating Tailored To Your Requirements

UK manufacturers such as Evertaut will tailor executive stadium seating to your requirements and to fit the available space. Upholstery vinyl to match your club colours and additional options such as cup holders, embroidered logos and heated seats allow you to design a seat that’s unique to your club.

Below are some examples of Evertaut’s VIP stadium seats fitted in clubs across the UK. Top left, VIP chairs can be found in all the executive boxes at Newcastle United FC where they are enhanced with the club’s crest embroidered on seat backs. In the middle are VIP seats in the Chairman’s suite at Bristol Rovers FC. In addition to the club badge, job titles of senior club executives were also embroidered on seat backs. Bottom right, Southport FC chose Evertaut’s VIP seats for a large section of seating as part of its stadium refurbishment.

For larger zones of premium seating some clubs choose to opt for seats without embroidery, as can be seen bottom left and top right.

Create a Premium Spectator Zone with Executive Stadium Seats

Whilst plastic stadium seating is a standard fixture in football and rugby stadiums, it does not offer a great level of comfort to spectators. It is very much functional seating that allows clubs to maximise capacity within the required health and safety regulations.

In contrast, executive stadium seats are deeply cushioned and upholstered and come with additional options such as cup holders, embroidered club logos and heated seats.

In recent years more clubs have been commissioning installations of executive stadium seats beyond Directors’ boxes and club executive areas. This type of seating gives clubs the opportunity to add a touch of luxury to the match day experience for fans by creating premium spectator zones. In turn it helps them generate additional revenue as they can charge a premium for fans to sit in these areas.

If you don’t want to sacrifice capacity for the sake of premium seats then there are solutions available that occupy a similar footprint to the basic plastic seat. Evertaut’s Club stadium seat (pictured above) is one such option. This compact seat is similar in design to the traditional plastic seat but with all the touches of luxury you would expect from an executive stadium seat. It can be floor fixed or riser mounted and can be manufactured with or without arms.

If capacity is not such an issue then Evertaut’s VIP stadium seats offer more space to premium spectators, being manufactured with arms as standard. Generally adjoining seats would share an arm but for added luxury they can each be made with 2 separate arms, as can be seen in the installation below.

If you want to create a super-premium feel, Evertaut’s Olympian stadium seats might fit the bill. These are the most luxurious option in Evertaut’s range, featuring a full height back for extra comfort. These seats are often commissioned to incorporate heated seat and back pads which are controlled by a button in the arm, as can be seen below right.

Executive stadium seats can be used alongside plastic seats to create a customised seating scheme that suits the needs of your club and fits in with your budget. Whether you want to replace the seating in an entire stand or you just want a single row of executive seats, Evertaut has no minimum order quantity and can tailor seating to your requirements.

All Evertaut’s executive stadium seating is supplied as standard with anti-microbial, UV-resistant vinyl which is available in a wide range of standard colours. Unique colours are also available, subject to a minimum order quantity.

Due to its bespoke nature, executive stadium seating is made to order and you will usually need to allow a minimum of 4-6 weeks from date of order to delivery and installation although this can vary dependent on the quantity required.

Evertaut has over 90 years’ experience in the seating marketing and has been manufacturing luxury stadium seats for over 20 years. For more information on Evertaut’s range of luxury stadium seats, please visit www.evertaut.co.uk.

The Benefits of Fixed Seating in Auditoria

What Is Auditorium Fixed Seating?

In an auditorium, fixed seating is permanently fixed and cannot be moved around. It is generally bolted to the floor or fixed to the risers of a tiered floor structure. Auditorium fixed seating is usually fitted in linked rows whereby adjoining seats will share an arm. In some executive and premium venues, seats will not be linked, and individual seats will have space between them.

Traditionally, auditorium fixed seating generally took the form of hardwood benches which were uncomfortable when sitting for long periods and did not provide individual personal space. Thankfully, auditorium seating has developed over the years to the comfortable, fully upholstered seats we have today. Now individual seats provide personal space whilst some venues have introduced double width ‘love seats’ which accommodate 2 people.

Where Is Auditorium Fixed Seating Used?

Fixed seating can be found in a range of venues from theatres and cinemas to university lecture theatres and places of worship. Most of the spaces where it is fitted will take the format of an auditorium where the floor is generally raked or tiered to provide optimum sightlines for patrons. It can also be fitted to a level floor.

The Benefits Of Auditorium Fixed Seating

Maximise Capacity – Fixed seating is the preferred choice in any venue that needs to maximise capacity. As linked seats share an arm, they take up much less space than individual seats with separate arms and there is no wasted space in between seats. Fixed seats can be manufactured to various widths to ensure capacity on each row is maximised, subject to a minimum seat width which allows for personal space.

Ease of access – As fixed seating is bolted to the floor, it can be supplied with flip-up seats. This offers numerous benefits in auditoria, improving access along rows when seats are unoccupied and giving patrons the space to stand and let others pass by when they are occupied. Flip-up seats also provide ease of access for floor cleaning which would be much more difficult otherwise.

Multi-purpose – fixed seating can be adapted for a variety of uses. For lecture theatres and other educational establishments, it can be manufactured with integrated writing tablets, rows of fixed desking or individual folding desks. For theatres and cinemas, the arms can be made with cup holders. For football stadiums seats can incorporate heated seat and back pads to warm up cold match days.

Durable and hard wearing – fixed seating is manufactured with a robust steel frame which will provide many years of maintenance-free service. This type of seating has to endure high frequency usage, not only with patrons sitting for hours at a time but with streams of people brushing past it, leaning on it and perhaps also resting on parts of it which are not intended for this purpose. Although upholstery fabric will eventually become worn over a long period of time, it is possible to have seats, backs and arms reupholstered, giving the seating a new lease of life. Metalwork can simply be sanded and repainted – there are many traditional venues still using 100+ year old seat frames!

What You Need To Know Before Specifying Lecture Chairs

If you work in an educational establishment or you are an architect or Quantity Surveyor working on new build projects in the education sector, you may have the responsibility of specifying lecture chairs.

UK manufacturer Evertaut has been manufacturing seating in the UK since the 1930s and has been supplying lecture chairs to universities and other educational establishments since the early 2000’s.

Here, the company offers some advice and key points to consider to help you prepare for the specification process and ultimately choose the correct seating suitable for the space and purpose.

Whether you’re replacing seats in an existing lecture theatre or furnishing a brand-new facility, before researching products and suppliers, you need to clarify some basic information which will help you in the sourcing process:

1.      Dimensions of the lecture room

2.      Maximum number of students that need to be accommodated

3.      Access and space for wheelchair positions

4.      Work surface requirements

5.      Any special layout requirements for teaching/student collaboration

6.      Type of upholstery

7.      Proposed colour scheme

8.      Available budget

9.      Deadline for fitting

10.  Any other special requirements

1.      Dimensions Of The Lecture Room

Even if you’re replacing existing seats, suppliers will need to know the dimensions of the space and length of existing rows to assess how many seats can fit. Many manufacturers custom make seats to order so they can be tailored to fit your space. If you want to add extra seats whether it be an additional row or an extra seat on the end of each existing row, suppliers will be able to advise if this is possible whilst still keeping within current safety regulations.

For new build projects, if you require a tiered floor installing, many lecture chair manufacturers are also experienced in doing this. Generally, an architect will provide drawings for the tiering but where clients choose to manage this part of the build themselves, seating manufacturers who also manufacture and install tiering will be able to do this. When providing measurements of the space you will also need to confirm the ceiling height.

2.      Maximum Number Of Students That Need To Be Accommodated

This is obviously basic information, but it can be a critical factor in determining the type of lecture chairs you choose. If space is at a premium then you will need to look for a seat with a smaller footprint or at seats without any arms which will take up less space.

3.      Access And Space For Wheelchair Positions

In any lecture theatre you will need to ensure there is sufficient access for wheelchairs and those with a disability, and provide space for wheelchair positions. You have the option of leaving space permanently free to accommodate wheelchairs when required, or you can have a section of removable seating which can be moved when wheelchair users need to frequent the lecture theatre. The latter option allows you to provide additional seating when no wheelchair users are present. You need to decide which option is most suitable and how many wheelchair spaces you are going to provide.

4.      Work surface requirements

You need to consider the requirements of the subjects to be taught in the lecture theatre to help you determine what type of desks (if any) are required.

Lecture chairs can be supplied without any desk or with a range of different desk options from writing tablets which fold-away into the arm to long rows of fixed desking. If students will be required to use books, tech or other equipment during lectures then individual writing tablets may not provide sufficient workspace. If the space is multi-purpose (eg also used for theatre performances or hired out to businesses for corporate presentations), then fold-away writing tablets could be an ideal solution as they can be folded away when not required.

5.      Any Special Layout Requirements For Teaching/Student Collaboration

This is most relevant in new build spaces where you are designing the layout from scratch. If a lot of collaboration is required between students and teachers then straight rows of lecture chairs may not be the ideal configuration. Many lecture theatres have seats positioned on a curve or in the round which allows lecturers to more easily interact with students, and lets students be able to see each other more clearly. You need to consider what is the most appropriate solution for the space. The layout also impacts the number of seats that will be able to fit so you will also need to take this into consideration.

6.      Type Of Upholstery

This is something which will have a key bearing on the cost of your seats. Most suppliers will have a standard contract fabric which they recommend but if you have a specific fabric in mind then this can add additional cost. Since the arrival of COVID-19 antimicrobial vinyl upholstery is also becoming more popular for lecture chairs.

7.      Proposed Colour Scheme

The fabric colour will probably be one of the final decisions you make and you don’t necessarily need to confirm this before starting the procurement process but it’s good to know the colour scheme you have to work with. Many designers now specify multiple fabric colours for lecture theatre seating where different coloured seats are installed in a uniform or random pattern. This can dramatically affect the look and feel of a space so it’s important to get it right if you want students to feel inspired when they walk into the lecture room. Whilst you can view fabric colour swatches online, it’s always preferable to request sample cards as colours can look different in reality.

8.      Available Budget

Usually the critical factor when specifying seating, you obviously need to know what funds are available for the lecture chairs so you can calculate a cost per seat to work with. When obtaining quotes, check that delivery and fitting (where required) is included.

9.      Deadline For Fitting

As most lecture chairs supplied by UK manufacturers are made to order, the leadtime can be anything from 4-8 weeks so you need to take this into consideration when getting quotes and check availability with potential suppliers. The Easter and Summer holidays are key times when demand for fitting is high, so manufacturing capacity is often full in the weeks leading up to this. If you need to get seats manufactured and fitted during these times you may need to book well in advance.

10.  Any Other Special Requirements

Finally, are there any other specific requirements for the lecture chairs/desks? This could include things like power and cable management. Whilst you will need an electrician to install USB charging points or plug sockets, your manufacturer can make provision for these by machining the required sized holes in desks. There are also options such as embroidered logos, cup holders, seat numbers, row letters, storage pockets etc.

Taking the time to clarify all of this information will give you more focus when researching lecture chair options and help ensure you source the most fit for purpose seating solutions. It will also help speed up the procurement process, allowing you to obtain accurate quotes from the outset.
